Abbey scrapbook, 1878-1912.

Bound volume containing stories and articles illustrated by Abbey, primarily from Harper's magazine with a few from Scribner's magazine. The date of issue is written in pencil at the bottom of each clipping. Many of the illustrations were signed by Abbey. A few were engraved from his drawings. Most of the drawings depict scenes of late 19th and early 20th century life. The last few articles are about Abbey and his work as a mural painter. Another article focuses on his career at Harper's. Also included is a letter from Abbey to J.N. Ford about an upcoming visit in 1901.

E. A. Abbey was a painter. Born in Philadelphia, he was self-taught and initially employed in a wood engraver's shop. In 1872, Abbey began working as an illustrator for Harper's.
